The Challenge

The Transit Tech Lab selected Ironloop to test solutions to public transportation challenges for North America's largest transit agency, the MTA. The MTA’s OT environment runs critical systems on decades-old equipment with no enforced configuration standard. While IT teams benchmark servers against established standards, the OT side has no equivalent, leaving teams without an easy way to see how their OT assets are set up or know when something changes.

The Approach

Ironloop deployed its read-only platform in under an hour on MTA-provisioned hardware inside an isolated OT environment, fully air-gapped from the internet and MTA’s production network. Over the engagement, the MTA’s cyber team ran it against configurations from 9 vendor families, including Rockwell, Siemens, and Cisco, and performed OT-safe network discovery across the lab’s switches, firewall, and PLCs.

The Ironloop Impact

Ironloop ingested and analyzed configurations from all of the MTA's PLC and network devices, mapped the findings to NIST CSF 2.0, and produced a configuration baseline for the MTA’s OT assets. The platform automated the typically manual configuration compliance process and established a standardized view to detect configuration drift and manage its OT infrastructure in real time.
