Securing Our Industrial Future

Securing Our Industrial Future

How We Got Here

Since the first digital controller was wired into a plant, the industrial world has been heading toward this moment. Digital controllers arrived in the late 1960s and made plants more productive. Connecting those controllers to networks throughout the 1990s and 2000s compounded those gains. Digitization and connectivity, however, left the systems that run water, power, fuel, and manufacturing exposed to the outside world, on hardware unprepared for the modern environment.

What We’re Facing

Now, attackers are at the door, throwing stones at the glass houses we built. As we are reindustrializing, building out domestic energy, and bringing a new generation of compute online, AI is lowering the cost of an attack -putting physical consequences within reach that used to live only in tabletop exercises.

The Way Forward

The answer to this moment is not more fear. Operators exist to make things, and they want to make them better, faster, and cheaper. Security has lagged because it has been framed as a cost against those three instead of a way to drive them. Look anywhere else in the world of software, and you find the opposite. In the cloud, security isn't a tax on the product; it is what lets teams ship every day without taking systems down. Industrial operators deserve the same capability, and it can be built.

A Foundational Solution

At Ironloop, we believe security should earn its place instead of demanding one. Woven into the foundation of every system, old and new, the same work that hardens a plant should make it easier to run: fewer surprises, faster troubleshooting, and less time spent reconstructing what changed and why. When security pays back in uptime and productivity, it stops being a cost to defer and becomes part of how an operation runs. We are building a platform that treats security and operations as one problem, and we intend to earn the right to be in every plant based on economics, not fear.

We are engineers who have built the software infrastructure behind safety-critical autonomous vehicles and have taken real-time sensing hardware from prototype to production. We have spent our careers building where software meets the physical world, where mistakes have physical consequences. We know what it means to be trusted near the control layer, and we know that trust is earned slowly and lost quickly.

Why Now

Over the next three posts, we will lay out the stakes, our thesis for a solution, and why this must be built now.

We are early, and most of the work lies ahead. We are building the foundation of industrial security, one made for the people who keep the world running, and we can’t wait to bring you along for what comes next.
